Hello my fellow bloggers. Today was another fun-filled day. It just keeps getting better. Today was the day that we went to the San Diego Portside. We ate breakfast at the Hotel Restaurant, and then boarded the San Diego Old Town Trolley. We headed down the the San Diego docks. Here we toured the Berkeley steamer, the B-34 Soviet Attack Submarine, the Star of India, the HMS Surprise, and the USS Midway. This took us until 2:00P.M. The Berkeley steamer was a old steamer from the early 1900’s. This steamer was a ship that was for passengers sailing around the coast of the United States. The B-34 Soviet Attack Submarine is a retired Soviet Submarine of the Soviet Navy. This submarine was built shortly after the second world war and served for about twenty years. The Star of India was a English ship that sailed under the British Empire in the late 1800’s. She sailed around the world of an exact number of twenty-one times. It was very difficult to sail these ships back then due to poor equipment and weaker ships. The fact that she made it around the world twenty-one times is quite amazing! The HMS Surprise was another ship that sailed under the British Empire. This was a classic warship that served in the late 1800’s. She has survived many conflicts at sea. She also played in the famous film, The Pirates of the Caribbean. My favourite ship is the USS Midway. She is a aircraft carrier in the United States Navy. She served for forty-seven years, and had a total of forty Commanding Officers. She also served in the famous mission Desert Storm-specifically Operation Python. Operation Python was a mission to seek and destroy terrorist scud missiles. She is also a total of nine-hundred feet in length. We went from the lower decks to the flight deck. On the flight deck she stored approximately twenty-three different aircraft. In the lower decks, there was the boiler and engine rooms, and of coarse the brig. The brig is a naval term for “jail ”. This is where all offenders were sent. The only sailor with permission to send anyone to the brig was the Commanding Officer. A sailor could be sent to the brig from three days to a month. The brig was ran by Marines. Then in the centre decks there was the hanger decks. This is were the aircraft would be stored before taking the elevator to the flight deck for operation. I also had the experience of some Naval Flight Simulators. Those were also fun. I also went on a sea lion tour. I went aboard a bus that could float on water as well. Well we had a lot of fun, I hope all is well to you-whoever may be reading!
